Yahoo! Floating Shopping Cart

A great new addition to the Yahoo! Store has just been announced. Using Floating Cart Manager, you can now set up and customize a mini-cart and floating cart for your store pages. These features are designed to keep your customers in the shopping flow until they’re ready to complete their order, which helps optimize their shopping experience and encourages increased order values.

The floating cart and mini cart will be styled to match the look at feel of your store.

When the floating cart is enabled for your store, you can offer the following checkout features to your customers, without causing them to exit your store pages to a separate checkout flow:

• Display the items currently in the shopper's cart, along with the quantity of each item added.
• Display the order subtotal.
• Allow customers to increase or decrease the quantity of each item ordered, and to remove items.
• Offer customers the ability to calculate shipping costs to US and Canada destinations.
• Let customers to apply a coupon to their order.
• Offer a free shipping promotion, and display messages both before and after an order qualifies for free shipping.


A mini-cart shows customers a summary of their order information, including the number of items and order subtotal, even if the floating cart is closed or not enabled. When the floating cart is enabled for a store, but is closed, customers can click on the mini-cart to re-open the floating cart.

Yahoo! recently released the floating shopping cart feature to all store package levels. If your store is using Editor 2.0 templates and you do not want to upgrade to 3.0 templates, you will need this featured enabled by a developer before it can be turned on. If you are using custom templates, the same applies. The install time will vary, depending on how your store was built and what adjustments are necessary to enable this feature to work.

Once enabled, you will be able to use the dashboard in your store manager to change behaviors. In most situations, installing floating shopping cart is a seamless process, but does require adjusting the programming inside the store.
